Welcome to my blog
On 16 September I will be starting the Coast to Coast walk - 192 miles from St Bees to Robin Hoods Bay - to raise funds for Actionnaires clubs for blind and partially sighted young people run by Action for Blind People. My five-year-old grandson, Jack, who is registered as blind has recently started going to the Actionnaires club. This club has opened up a whole new world for him. There are 28 Actionnaires clubs in the UK which allow children to take part in sport, make friends, keep fit and have fun in a safe and supportive environment. It is fantastic to see blind and partially sighted children being given the same sporting opportunity as their sighted friends and so important to enable these children to build self-confidence and realise their own potential. I'll be walking alone but hoping to meet people along the way. The reason I'm doing this is to try and raise funds for the Actionnaires club. It costs £12,500 a year to run the club and they rely on fundraising to stay open and through this walk I'm hoping to raise £2,500. Please visit my fundraising page at www.justgiving.com/KensCoast2Coast. I'll give an update of my progress every day and hope to reach Robin Hoods Bay by 29 September.
